once i hear the word "survey" my mind starts to glaze over with some martha stewart buttercream frosting.   same with the word "shopping" which i associate with valium, as in: best done when or can only be performed by.

when obamagirl gets a better vocal sound than dave winer, we really ought to give things a rethink, a reframe.

moral politics:  why should radical conservatives have a platform that comes together?  what do these things have to do with each other?  why should they fit together in that way?

uh huh, you say
"Ima bust an arrow in his ass!"

haffer

He's a warm and gregarious man who runs a successful children's underwear company on the East Coast.

Lakoff goes off into Alice Miller land while Winer reveals more than he probably wants to (or realises) about his childhood.  filling in some blanks for me why he is such a sexist creep (IMO)

but what do I know?

laughs at the obvious

Lakoff's bottle metaphor is flawed at best as fp notes

i am surprised at how simpleminded Winer is

he cuts Lakoff off citing "people's short attention span"

then proceeds to turn it into all about Dave show by the end

Comments

I have tried on several occasions to listen to that podcast. But I keep wandering from the room.

nah, not me. it's got everything. i like listening to lakoff - doc speaks so highly of him that i had to hear what he sounded like. i felt that he was very patient with winer (no relation) who is a real asshole who does not listen. he may be good at inventing rss but he's creepy. i am not the best person socially but he makes me look like princess diana working the room.

it's my "american idol", this shite, love it. spent last two nights listening to live feed from freedom to connect, but i was too busy trying to make people laugh on the back channel to take notes. clay shirky was fucking great. frank was there and described his footware to me in great detail.

If you run into Tree Shapiro, let him know that I got Shirky to autograph a copy of that book for him. I'll send it your way for the hand-off. May have some food stains in it. I'm reading it over lunch and dinner as time and solitude permit.

i keep trying desperately to read or in this case listen to lakoff and i know doc and others are huge fans but it just always strikes me - this framing - as nonsense. all about being a better rhetorician. it's not that it's wrong, it's just that it's wrong.
